PBJ Smoothie

This is the smoothie to get you started on your smoothie journey. It tastes like a milkshake, it’s very easy, absolutely delicious, fills you up, you can hide greens in it, and it will still taste like peanut butter and berries!

I like to interchange this one with my green smoothie (which I’ll write down a recipe for soon, but in the meantime, you can see the ‘formula’ I use in this highlight)

Ingredients (serves 1 ) :

  • 1 large ripe banana (meaning it has to be spotty, that’s when it’s at its best for digestion and will taste the sweetest, which is perfect for smoothies!)

  • 1/2 cup - ish of frozen berries (I like to use mixed berries, but you can just pick one type like blueberries, raspberries etc)

  • 1 or 2 tbsp of peanut or almond butter (you can always add one, taste once blended and add one more if you like it to be nuttier)

  • 1 cup of plant milk of your choice

  • 1 tbsp of chia seeds*

  • 1 tbsp of flaxseeds* (ground or whole)

  • 1/4 cup of rolled oats*

  • 1 tbsp of hemp hearts*

  • 1 small handful of greens such as dark kale or spinach* (you won’t taste it I promise!)

*optional - but recommended! You can mix and match as you wish. The seeds add in a punch of nutrition, all those good omegas and healthy fats, protein, and the list goes on. The oats add in a ton of fiber, and protein, but also makes it more filling, sometimes I make a double portion of this and call it breakfast!

Method :

  • place all in a high-speed blender. Blend on high for a min or so, until everything is fully smooth! Drink up!

That’s it! Easy peasy! The use of frozen berries is essential in my opinion, smoothie are generally x1000 better when cold! if you don’t have frozen berries, add in a small handful of ice cubes. The ripe banana is also essential for sweetness, if yours isn’t sweet enough, add in a Medjool date!
